Caption: Mount Balfour above Hector Lake

Story: On our climb of Mount Hector, I enjoyed the panorama of the divide mountains while eating lunch at over 3000 m, especially Mount Balfour. The northeast slopes of Mount Balfour are the most difficult and dangerous part of the Wapta Traverse. There are some large crevasses with ice cliffs above, which are impossible to predict when they might avalanche. Luckily that does not happen often. In the back, right of center is Mount Des Poilus and at the very right Mount Gordon and Olive with the Vulture Col between them. This is another difficult section of the Wapta Traverse, which however can be bypassed easily via the St. Nicholas-Olive Col out of the picture.
